I’m Alisa M. Porter
I’m an advocate for those who are marginalized and I focus my work on various social issues that impact the communities I am a part of.
I’ve held executive leadership roles over the past 30 years at non-profits such as the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, YWCA of Greater Atlanta, Our House, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness DeKalb County affiliate. I have served on boards such as National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Men Stopping Violence, and the DeKalb Criminal Justice Treatment Coalition. In addition, I served on the American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program and Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship Program advisory and training committees. I currently serve at the DeKalb County Misdemeanor Mental Health Accountability Court. I also work as a freelance writer on health and justice topics for health advocacy publications. I advocate for those living with mental illness and their families, facilitate peer-led support groups, and speak publicly on mental health and justice issues. I received my bachelor’s degree from Emory University in Sociology and my master’s degree from Brandeis University, Heller School for Social Policy and Management.
